Nexus International School, Singapore
Broadway Malyan has been commissioned by Taylor’s Group to support its bid and further design to create a new unique flagship school in Singapore for 2,000 pupils, which would replace its increasingly moribund campus in the island’s fashionable Pandan Valley district.
Suitable development sites are scarce and hard won in Singapore and beat 40 other schools to secure the narrow 57,000 sqm plot on the east coast sandwiched between the Pan Island Expressway and the Pelton Canal. Circumstance, spatial reality and an acute sense of the future necessitated a lateral design approach that identified the opportunity as vertical.
The innovative vertical 13-storey campus accommodates two-year grades on each ‘learning level’, unified by a range of high-quality shared facilities throughout. The school is designed to a flexible planning grid that informs structure, façade and interior solutions that recognize the changing requirements of both learners and teachers over time.
