NATIONAL FOOD SAFETY (HENGQIN) INNOVATION CENTER
The planning layout incorporates ‘courtyard’ and ‘patio’ elements to cope with the hot and humid environment. The courtyard is the centrepiece of the building, organising open spaces such as corridors, void deck and terraces to open up the enclosed indoor environment to nature and create an open public space. The building’s base is linked by a unique architectural arcade. The void deck ground floor forms a continuous walking and strolling space to ensure commercial use but also to facilitate ventilation, shade and shelter from the rain.
The design of the building is inspired by the sea and sailing boats. The form of the building resembles a ship sailing on the sea signifying the spirit of the design.
