NAMKWONG DRAGON BAY NO.1 – STAGE1

Nam Kwong Dragon Bay No. 1 is located in northwest of Wuxi city in Jiangsu province. It is part of a new development zone, extending the city toward the northwest. Wuxi downtown and the famous Taihu Lake are located 12 kilometers from the site.
The site was originally a farmland consisting of small fields and a network of natural and manmade canals. Xinkai River flows through the site and divides it into several parts and offering a great asset for a development.
The brief required a Modern Chinese style housing compound that respects its existing natural environment. The development comprises an atmosphere of a modern Watertown, with elements of water closely intertwined into peoples lifestyles and daily use.
The landscape design was to arise out of a variety of different spaces from open plazas to enclosed gardens, providing a variety of community spaces and places for communication.
The design uses the principles of Chinese gardens to create unique, private outdoor spaces. Such as the Chinese courtyard elements that establish an atmosphere of harmony between building forms and people.
The project consists of 3 different housing typologies; townhouse, garden house and high-rise apartments are planned in order to create a balanced master plan. High-rise buildings line the major axis. Garden houses and Townhouses are located in the quieter and more natural environments.
The courtyard typologies provide the planning with variety by inviting light and open space into the developments. Creating pleasant views and public spaces to enjoy scenery of water, pathways and open gardens.
In particular the townhouse settlement is organized in a form to create unique views into the surrounding area and nearby houses, giving each townhouse its original setting.
