Cyrus Tang Foundation

Dedicated to education in China, the Tang Foundation’s new HQ is a future-thinking space where innovation meets collaboration. Featuring sculptural interiors inspired by colour and tactility, the design has delivered a collegiate space for active learning. Delivering on Mr. Tang’s mandate to create a space differentiated from that of a school, Woods Bagot was careful to tailor the space to the students rather than government officials. The design embraced the opportunity to make a strong first impression upon entering the building, with a feature sculptural column doubling as the reception desk. Materials and finishes have been selected to maintain a sense of playfulness as well as functionality, enabling the space to be tailored for exhibitions and displays. Two sculptural stairs provide a dynamic connection between two levels of the fit-out, establishing a sense of movement.

The design provides a space for students to create and collaborate, while reaffirming the fact that work and fun can co-exist.
