Renovation Design of Underground Garage of Shanghai Grand Theatre

The garage of the Grand Theatre is a ‘theatre garage’ that can be performed inside.

The three main corridors are ‘Shakespeare’, ‘Giselle’ and ‘Turandot’. The audience can feel the unique cultural atmosphere of the theatre in the garage, which also reduces the tension and closure brought by the underground space.

In terms of design performance, garage is a long-neglected functional space. We hope that in this practice, under the very limited cost budget, we can create a plain functional space into a powerful and passionate underground space, and attract more citizens and audiences to enter the theatre to watch various performances and cultural activities.
