Landmark Riverside Danzishi Old Street
Based on the development strategy of ‘interwoven heritage and lineage’, the project is a localised historic cultural district based on key elements in the local culture. Danzishi Old Street Riverside Area, as part of the old streets, inherits and extends the area’s modern culture. In the post modern context, the project reorganises the historic cultural resources in the area, and cultivated four themed cultures, namely the courtyard culture, the manor culture, the dock culture, and the auxiliary capital culture. The upper part of Danzishi Old Street follows the principal of ‘interwoven heritage and lineage’ in planning the 200m long old street. Height differences form a spatial structure of ‘one street, four dams’, of which “one street” is the main carrier, while ‘four dams’ refers to the four layered platform plazas. The structure highlights the mountainous traits of Chongqing’s local architecture, where the placement of building clusters would reflect the beauty in the mountain to form a fifth façade for the architecture. The fifth façade is the most important portrayal of architectural space in the Chongqing area.
