The Ritz-Carlton Xi’An

Zhongda ZhongFanXin Proprietary Co., Ltd., a retail complex developer, commissioned WATG to design their first hotel with the goal of making it a landmark mixed-use development. Sited in a highly visible large intersection, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel and adjoining luxury retail complex were designed in black and white to give a crisp and modern feel that stood out next to its urban building counterparts. The Client was so pleased with the design that they asked WATG to design Zhongda Residences, a luxury residential tower within the development. In any mixed-use environment, wayfinding was key to ensure seamless entrances into retail for visitors while sectioning off private retail entrances for the hotel guests and residents. The project ties together all these elements together through courtyards and a rooftop garden lined with sustainable LED lighting. All buildings used silkscreened windows and ceramic frit to provide natural cooling and heating without using any toxic materials.
