Huazhu Art Gallery, Shaoxing

The most original mission and ideal of this design are the recovery of tradition and the inheritance of water town culture. The architect adopts the simplest way of realization – the application of modern techniques combined with the creation of space conception. In terms of modeling, a number of curved sloping roofs are used and arranged orderly, reflecting traditional architecture style, which is a tribute to the freehand atmosphere of buildings painted by Wu Guanzhong. In terms of space, the courtyard with mirror pool reflects people’s activities, which makes inner peace. The clean wall becomes the background picture, and people become the focus of space, with human activities as the core. Intricate paths, obvious or covert, loose or tight, which are the essence of China’s classical garden architecture, have been well applied in the design.
