SHANGHAI ASTRONOMY MUSEUM

The lighting design of this project uses a dramatic lighting approach with precise light control of the dark environment and removal of shadows for accent lighting. The infinite universe is fictionalized in a limited space. The dark environment is the base color to create the atmosphere of the ethereal universe, and the blue light reinforces this intention. Large and small optical fibers bring people into the experience of being wrapped in the starry sky. When the boundaries of reality are deflated, people’s imagination is greatly accommodated and they get an immersive experience like a space walk. The removal of shadows dismantles the inherent impression of physical reality, eliminates spatial scale, and visually separates the exhibits from the background, giving people an unreal “space” experience.
