YALE SCIENCE BUILDING
The design of Yale University’s new Science Building is a 287,000 SF complex that houses departments, Biology, Plant Biology, MBB, MCDB, Physics, Imaging, and its supporting vivarium, aquatics, and insectary facilities. The project is located at the heart of Yale’s Science Hill. The main lab building will replace the existing Gibbs lab. The project also consists of a large underground concourse level that connects all the buildings surrounding Science Hill as well as housing the vibration sensitive Physics and Imaging labs and a 500-seat lecture hall. Above grade, the project also features a two-story glass pavilion that serves as a large collaborative gathering and study space for the entire Science Hill area. YSB balances the need to provide connectivity and functionality to Science Hill with the need to create a sense of place.
