NO.7 XUGUYUAN ROAD, XINHEPU
Built in the 1960s, the project is adjacent to the site of the Third National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), a national key cultural relic protection unit, and located at the core of the Xinhepu historical and cultural block. It is an important building for the century-old activities of the CPC. As a district-managed public residential project, the building was originally a brick-concrete structure, had been in disrepair for long. Some load-bearing walls were broken, while the interior decoration is old, and the appearance was not in line with the surroundings. The design aims to renovate facades to maintain its heritage. Simultaneously, internal functions are rebuilt and transformed into an art exhibition hall. The project preserves the historical architectural style while injecting contemporary elements. The design transforms the physical space improvement into the upgrade of facilities and internal functions, which ultimately uplifted into a popular community hub.
