MIXC NANJING

MixC Nanjing is a retail-led development located in the city’s 700-year-old Sanshan Street, within the famous Qinhuai Tourist Area. Given its location in the ancient city, at the heart of site sits a now-restored ‘Yunzhang Guild Building’ from the Nanjing silk brocade industry.
Lead8 studied the urban grain closely, working with planners with authority on the local historical context. Bridging history to the present, the team delved into the urban fabric, local memories, traditional architecture, street textures, and cultural experiences to reimagine a future for the site.
Conscious of environmental performance, preserving and reusing historic buildings, introducing solar panels, grey and rainwater collection and recycling, and the local sourcing of materials from Southeast China have helped to address embodied and operational carbon challenges.
The result is a commercially vibrant development that also preserves the city’s rich history.
