NYU SHANGHAI

NYU Shanghai’s campus embodies the mission of learning through cultural exchange, advances this mission through its innovative approach to programming and spatial organization, and creates an enduring identity for NYU Shanghai as the preeminent Sino-American University.
The campus design comprises four distinct buildings on a compact site connected by a ring on higher levels to define a courtyard. The landscape within the campus honours academic landscape traditions from European cloisters to Chinese gardens, whilst the buildings vertically stack departments creating layers of teaching, research, cultural, and faculty office floors. Gateways that connect the courtyard to the street simultaneously connect Chinese students to this cosmopolitan campus and international students to China.
The innovative organization of specialized program spaces around varied public spaces to foster collaboration across disciplines and cultures is fundamental to advancing the mission of NYU Shanghai.
