CMP GROUP Wuhan Iron Foundry is located in Xiaogan, Wuhan. The concept of “The Trio of Life, Production, and Ecology” emphasizes the organic integration of these three aspects in master planning. The design breaks away from the traditional focus on industrial production efficiency with living quarters as mere support facilities. The design arranged the employee dormitory, office building, and management dormitory into a clustered configuration, thereby creating a campus with aesthetics appeal with cast iron sculptures and ecological courtyards. Taking into consideration the local climate characterized by abundant rainfall and stifling summers, the building design prioritizes ventilation for their exterior walls. A “panchi”, inspired by the entry pond frequently use in traditional Chinese schools, sits on the southern side of the campus, thus adapting the microclimate to create a sustainable environment.
