GUANGZHOU PEARL RIVER BACK CHANNEL (GUANGZHOU INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION CITY SEGMENT) PUBLIC SPACE DESIGN
Pearl River back channel south bank public space design is a landscape design competition aiming to create an ecological and resilient landscape framework for Guangzhou International Science and Technology Innovation City development. The river-centric design proposal seeks to establish a resilient and diverse ecological foundation, rejuvenate cultural and industrial heritages, provide diverse outdoor amenities, and create an open tech platform for communication and collaboration with a modern Lingnan character. Building on Panyu’s existing river and water canal infrastructure, the District’s water ecology integrates a comprehensive bio-filtration network, along with extensive riverfront forest and wetlands to address its urban runoff and carbon mitigation, and engage the river’s flow dynamics. Through preservation, enhancements, and new expansions, a landscape network of diverse habitats, recreational opportunities, migratory nature routes are open and accessible to all.
