Xiangshawan Desert Lotus Hotel

The hotel is located in Kubuqi Desert, Ordos, covering a gross floor area of 48000 m². It consists of reception, hotel suites, clubs, F&B, as well as retail sections. Externally, the hotel gives visitors an illusion of a 4-storey high building, while being actually 1-storey high, with 4 layers semi-detached to each other to provide sufficient dispersion, both horizontally and vertically, in order to provide an optimised layout for emergency evacuation.
PLAT ASIA has invented a nouveau foundation system, making use of layers of steel panels to have the sands fixed in place, which is a custom to the special geological conditions in deserts. Moreover, instead of a sheer wall system, a precast steel skeleton system has been used to reduce the pressure on the foundation. This also allows the membrane system to be separately installed as a sun-shading device, which brags for its cooling effects during summer times.
